„Gossen-Preis“ des Vereins für Socialpolitik an SOEP-Beiratsmitglied Simon Gächter

Press Release of October 10, 2005

The DIW Berlin is pleased to announce that the recipient of this year’s Gossen Award was Professor Simon Gächter (of the University of Nottingham). The Verein für Socialpolitik, a German economic research association, presents this prestigious award to one German-speaking economist per year for excellence in internationally relevant economic research. The Austrian-born Gächter is associated with the DIW Berlin as a member of Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) Advisory Board.
Simon Gächter deals with the interaction between economic and psychological factors in economic decisions. In order to make possible a study on the interactive effects of psychology and economics, he began working with SOEP data in 2002, systematically surveying personality traits and using innovative experiments to test the results.“We are very pleased to have Simon Gächter supporting SOEP as a member of our advisory board,“ says Gert G. Wagner, SOEP director. “The fact that he received this prestigious award also reinforces for us that we are on the right track with SOEP’s further development.”
