Internationalisation of R&D in multinational corporations

The motives, strategies and repercussions of the internationalisation of R&D in multinational corporations will be analysed and evaluated from a German viewpoint. The study incorporates

• an international comparison of R&D among German companies abroad and
• an international comparison of R&D among foreign companies in Germany.

The evolution of R&D expenditure and R&D personnel as well as the various R&D specialisations of multinational corporations both at home and abroad indicate the strengths and weaknesses of a country as a location for R&D. To this end, the study investigates the amount of R&D expenditures, intensity and industry focus among domestic and foreign-owned companies in Germany and other industrialized countries.
