Resource and Environmental Markets

Research profile

The research group “Resource and Environmental Markets” deals with the economic analysis of the markets of energy resources and other resources as well as with the externalities of resource utilization. One major focus of the research is on the effect climate policies on resource markets.

Moreover, market-based instruments of environmental policies such as the European Emissions Trading Scheme are investigated. The global markets for oil, natural gas and coal still play a major role in the world’s economies. Import dependent regions such as Germany and Europe depend on secure supplies of these resources. However, resource utilization causes local and global externalities and therefore requires regulation. The research group “Resource and Environmental markets” uses a variety of methods, but focusses on the development and utilization of partial equilibrium model as well as on empirical methods of micro and time series econometrics. Moreover, the energy balances of Germany are maintained by the research group.
