The Innovation, Manufacturing, Service department studies the behaviour of businesses and the development of markets in a continually changing and integrating world. Primarily using empirical methods, the department analyses current business strategies for the development and introduction of new products and services; for factor input optimization; for the choice of location; as well as how finacing is secured. We further analyze to what extent public policies impact the behaviour of firms.The research activities of the Innovation, Manufacturing, Services department draws on economic theory, in particular on modern empirical methodology that takes advantage of rich data sets. With the support of the German Statitics Offices, research activities using firm data sets play an increasing role. The methodological focus of the department work is on panel data analysis and micro econometrics. Conducting competitive research, as well as German and European wide consultancy, the department is divided into two subfields.
