Data protection

Each individual employee who works with SOEP data in your research group must be obliged to adhere to data protection regulations. You can obtain copies of the relevant forms together with the contract on data distribution. If you have run out of copies, you can obtain a sample for a data protection form | PDF, 50.25 KB here.

Citation

To improve the data distribution documentation in future, we would like to ask you to acknowledge the use of a data set and the institution that provided it (either at the beginning of a footnote or in the foreword of a book). The following acknowledgement should be made:

The data used in this publication were made available to us by the German Socio-Economic Panel Study (SOEP) at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW), Berlin.

If you would like to cite a published journal article that describes the SOEP then please use:

Wagner, Gert G., Frick, Joachim R., and Schupp, Jürgen (2007), The German Socio-Economic Panel Study (SOEP) – Scope, Evolution and Enhancements | PDF, 173.3 KB , Schmollers Jahrbuch 127 (1), 139-169

If you would like to cite a published journal article that describes the SOEP, i.e. the scientific use file with the 95% version of the SOEP, then please use:

Frick, Joachim. R.; Jenkins, Stephen P.; Lillard, Dean R.; Lipps, Oliver; and Wooden, Mark (2007): The Cross-National Equivalent File (CNEF) and its Member Country Household Panel Studies | PDF, 160.7 KB , Schmollers Jahrbuch 127 (4), 626-654.

Documenting the use of the SOEP in scientific research is very important in our evaluation process and ultimately for the survival of this project. As you know the transfer of your publications is stipulated in your user contract. Unfortunately our SOEPlit databank is far from complete. For this reason please send us () all your publications based on the SOEP.

Thank you very much!
