Despite overall positive employment trends a significant number of young people are neither in employment nor in education or training (NEETs).  What is their situation in Germany compared to other OECD Member countries?  Which groups are most affected?  How do early school leavers fare?  What are associated poverty and health risks?  Which policies and measures can address these problems and help tap the potential.  Answers will also be key for the successful integration of young migrants and refugees.  The presentation will draw on results of the recent OECD report ‘Society at a Glance’ as well as on practical experiences with integration of NEETs in Germany.

Presentation: Stéphane Carcillo | Senior Economist, OECD Directorate for Employment, Labour and Social Affairs
Comment: Dr. Volker Born | Director Vocational Education and Training, German Confederation of Skilled Crafts (ZdH)
Moderation: Heino v. Meyer | OECD Berlin Centre

The aim of this series of events is to present and discuss current research findings in applied economics. Since they were first introduced in 2001, the Berlin Lunchtime Meetings have become established as a forum for debate and discussion between political advisors, the private sector, and representatives of interest groups in Berlin's scientific community. The Berlin Lunchtime Meetings are jointly organized by DIW Berlin and OECD Berlin Centre.
