Post-Doctoral Position in Energy Market Modeling
(100%, 3 years)

Tasks

  • Participation in research projects funded by the German Federal ministry BMWi
  • Research foci:
    • Coupling of energy sectors (electricity, gas, heat, mobility)
    • Interaction of network and generation planning
  • Methods:
    • Quantitative modeling of energy markets and networks, particularly with our open-source tools DIETER (www.diw.de/dieter) and ELMOD (www.diw.de/elmod)
    • Optimization under uncertainty
  • Expected output: Policy-relevant reports and articles in leading academic journals

Requirements

  • Solid economic background which allows admission to the BERA network https://www.berlin-econ.de/
  • Completed dissertation in the field of energy economics
  • Very good knowledge of the German and European electricity markets
  • Experience with quantitative energy modeling, in particular linear and mixed integer optimization models implemented in the General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS)
  • Ideally, some experience with optimization under uncertainty and/or multistage modeling
  • A respective publication record, concerning both policy reports and journal articles
  • Very good command of Microsoft office products, in particular Excel
  • Further IT skills are welcome (e.g. data bases, python)
  • Very good English skills; command of German is not mandatory, but welcome
