DIW Berlin’s Sustainable Development Research Group offers a

Doctoral Position in Development Economics
(50%, 3 years)

The candidate will contribute to a long-term research project investigating how households in rural Mongolia adapt to climate change. Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the project evaluates the impact of two adaptation interventions on households with quantitative methods: (1) the provision of daily weather forecasts and medium-term projections of extreme weather events to households; and (2) an index-based weather insurance that provides indemnity payments to insured households in the aftermath of an extreme weather event. Both Randomized Control Trials (RCTs) and quasi-experimental methods will be used to establish a valid counterfactual. Moreover, the project will implement two additional waves of the Coping with Shocks in Mongolia Household Panel Survey, for which three waves were implemented between 2012 and 2015 (www.diw.de/mongolia).
