The Graduate Center of the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) and the Sustainable Economy Research group at CentraleSupélec are organizing a joint Winter School for PhD students and postdocs in Economics of Energy and Environment.

The distinguished, internationally renowned lecturers will be Prof. Frank A. Wolak (Stanford University), Prof. Veronika Grimm (TU Nürnberg), Prof. Philippe Quirion (CIRED-CNRS), and Prof. Afzal Siddiqui (Stockholm University). 

Topic

The lectures will be devoted to new developments in Economics of Energy and Environment.

The Winter School will host PhD students and postdoctoral researchers (within five years after graduation) working in the field of Economics of Energy and Environment

Agenda

Each day consists of two morning lectures, 90 minutes each, delivered by leading academics and experts in their fields. Confirmed speakers include Prof. Nicolas Astier (Paris School of Economics), Prof. Philippe Quirion (CIRED CNRS), Prof. Afzal Siddiqui (Stockholm University), Dr Charles Weymuller (Chief Economist at EDF), Prof. Veronika Grimm (TU Nürnberg) and Prof. Frank A. Wolak (Stanford University).

Afternoons will be dedicated to workshops devoted either to research questions or methodologies. The first workshop will be around Energy Economics topics and the second will be focused on Environmental Economics. Workshops will be held by:  Prof. Ibrahim Abada (GEM Alpine Business School), Dr. Pierre Uginet (Laboratoire d'Economie Appliquée de Grenoble), Prof. Claire Bergaentzlé (Technical University of Denmark) and Prof. Lutz Sager (ESSEC Business School).

At the end of the day, PhD students and postdocs will present their research papers or PhD topics in 15 minutes in small groups and get feedback from the seminar chairs, the other participants and some of the lecturers of the day.

Application

Application: Applicants should provide till October 7, 2026:

  1. A short letter of motivation with a detailed description of the dissertation topic.
  2. A curriculum vitae with a description of research achievements.
  3. A working paper/publication or a detailed description of the research topic to be presented at the Winter School.

The selected participants will be informed by October 14, 2026.

There will be a tuition fee of 200 Euro for PhD students and postdocs. Participants will have to pay for their own hotel accommodation and travel expenses.

Venue

The Winter School will take place at Paris Saclay, on the CentraleSupélec Campus. Within the Bouygues Building, the Winter School will be located near the M18 metro station, Université Paris Saclay. The building is accessible to persons with disabilities.
