In an energy system with a large renewable capacity, as is forseen with the German energy transformation, the level of electricity consumption and its timing throughout the day and the year is crucial. In this BSEC, we have discussed options for inducing changes in households' electricity consumption, with a focus on the effectiveness of instruments, as well as on drivers of and barriers to implementation.
