The financial sector has an important role in the transition towards a net-zero economy. Moderated by Prof. Dr. Karen Pittel (ifo Institute) this panel will discuss policy options for the financial sector. Karsten Löffler (Green and Sustainable Finance Cluster Germany) will hold a keynote on the recommendations of the German Sustainable Finance Committee. Four panelists will then add scientific perspectives on specific aspects of these recommendations: Reporting and transparency regulation for climate-related information (Prof. Dr. Frank Schiemann, University of Hamburg), policies to improve financial risk management (Dr. Franziska Schütze, DIW Berlin), and incentives for mobilizing climate-friendly investment (Dr. Kai Lessmann, PIK). Christa Clapp (CICERO) will close with a discussion of green bond labelling and climate impacts of climate risk disclosure.
The side event is jointly organized by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin), the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW) and the BMBF. It will be held as a virtual event via the Germon Pavilion Conference Platform.
