Dear colleagues,

we would like to cordially invite you to the next brown bag seminar on topics related to the socio-ecological transformation (SÖT).

The seminar takes place next week on Thursday (Oct. 5) at 12 pm in the Elinor Ostrom hall (1st floor). Please mark your calendars.

Robin Sogalla from the department Firms & Markets will present his paper “Unilateral climate policy and heterogeneous firms” which deals with the carbon border adjustment mechanism.

Unilateral climate policy poses the risk that emission intensive production relocates abroad. A prominent policy instrument to counter this so-called carbon leakage is the carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM), which charges the domestic carbon price on the emissions embodied in imports. The EU will implement a CBAM from October 2023 onwards. This paper aims at quantifying the effects of varying emission targets in combination with different CBAM designs on emissions, carbon leakage, gross output and real income using a general equilibrium trade model.

We would be happy to see many of you. For those that cannot join us physically, there will again be an online option (sent next week).
