The Graduate Center of the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) and the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Warsaw (FES UW) are organizing a joint Summer School for Ph.D. students and post-docs in economics from September 22-26, 2025 in Warsaw.
The distinguished, internationally renowned lecturers will be Prof. Michael McMahon (University of Oxford) and Prof. Dr. Sophia Kazinnik (Stanford University).
The lectures will be devoted to new developments in Text Mining and Machine Learning mainly with Applications to Macroeconomics and Finance. Topics covered will include recent developments in natural language processing (NLP) and text mining, as well as large language models (LLMs), and machine learning.
The Summer School will host up to 25 PhD students and post-doctoral researchers (within five years after graduation) working in the field of textual analysis in macroeconomics and finance, but other topics in microeconomics, institutional economics, behavioural economics and social sciences are also welcome.

There will be a tuition fee of 220 EUR. Participants will have to pay for their own hotel accommodation and travel expenses; the organisers will reserve a reasonably priced hotel option.
Venue: The Summer School will take place in Warsaw at the campus of the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Warsaw (FES UW). The FES UW building (ul. Długa 44/50) is located in the central district of Warsaw, near the M1 metro station, close to the Old Town. The building is accessible to persons with disabilities.
