SUMMARY:Unlocking innovation to facilitate a low-carbon industry in Europe
DESCRIPTION:12:15 -14:00 // Long-term decarbonisation of the European economy requires technological innovation in all sectors. Key industries in Europe (and globally) are faced with the challenge to change their processes and products to reduce direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions from their operations. They do so in the context of international competition and volatility in energy markets around the word - and debates on the climate and energy policy beyond 2020 at EU and UN level. A variety of industrial sectors (such as cement, pulp & paper, chemical industry) have recently developed sector specific roadmaps to outline their potential pathways. This workshop is meant to address two fundamental questions that arise in this regard:What are the technological options to decarbonising energy intensive industries? What are the policy instruments required to unlock this technological innovation?Presenters:- Tomas Wyns, Centre for Clean Air Policy (CCAP)- Karsten Neuhoff, German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin)- Antonio Pflüger, Federal Ministry for the Economy and Technology (BMWI)Presentations:Tomas Wyns
