It analyzes the drivers of the recent slowdown of growth in the emerging economies--are they cyclical or structural in nature? How resilient to crises are the emerging economies? The WEO reflects on the recent developments in the euro area. To what extent have the economies in the periphery rebuilt their competitiveness? It concludes with a discussion of the policy challenges facing the advanced and emerging economies.Jörg Decressin is Senior Advisor in the IMF's Research Department, in charge of the IMF's World Economic Outlook. He joined the IMF after he obtained his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1993 and has published on labor and capital market adjustment, fiscal policy, and financial integration in Europe.
