SUMMARY:Family-Friendly Workplaces: Selection and Satisfaction
DESCRIPTION:12:30 - 13:30 // We exploiting two unique data sources, a linked employer-employee dataset and a dataset on families in Germany, to analyze the effect of a change in firm family friendliness on workforce composition and worker satisfaction. We focus on two types of family friendly policies: The offer of childcare services and flexible working hours. Combining fixed effect and matching methods to account for selection effects we find some evidence for a stronger increase in the fraction of women in firms which introduced a family friendly policy. The effect is in particular strong for childcare services in East Germany. Satisfaction with work and care are also affected. Flexible working hours, if at all, only set incentives for higher educated women to choose a specific employer.
