The objective of the study is to analyze the performance of the official statistics for the measurement the productivity of knowledge-intensive services. The study will be executed in two steps. In the first step, concept of productivity measurement common in official statistics is discussed critically, and the development of productivity measured on this basis in the field of the knowledge-intensive services is looked at. In the second step, concepts of productivity measurement are treated which are reaching beyond the official concept, especially the "growth-accounting approach". The current productivity development on this basis is analyzed. Finally, proposals for improving the measurement of productivity in the official statistics are derived. The investigation is part of the project "Development and Testing of an Innovation-driven Concept for the Measurement of Productivity for Knowledge-intensive Service Providers" (INPROWID), conducted by the Fraunhofer ISI, Karlsruhe on behalf of the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
