Project description

Basic materials production is responsible for 30% of global GHG emissions. However, both efforts and results on mitigation are limited. While BAU investments are declining, due to concerns on stranded assets, the policy framework is insufficient for low-carbon innovation and investments. It is necessary to:

• Develop a shared understanding of development perspectives, including new technologies, materials and practices.
• Identify conducive conditions for climate-friendly innovations and investments.
• Explore options for refinement and use of existing and additional policy instruments (national and European).
• Discuss opportunities and challenges in policy implementation.

The Climate Friendly Materials Platform addresses these challenges. While, so far, it has focused mainly on North-Western Europe, this project aims to support the position of Southern and Central-Eastern European countries.
