Staff matters: President of the EU Commission, José Manuel Barroso, appoints Claudia Kemfert as a member of the “High Level Group on Energy”

The Head of the “Energy, Transportation, Environment” Department at DIW Berlin and Professor of Environmental Economics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Prof. Dr. Claudia Kemfert, has been appointed as a member of the “High Level Group on Energy” of the EU Commission. The President of the EU Commission, José Manuel Barroso, has been able to find well-known experts in the field of energy and climate protection for this Group in Europe.
The top researchers are to forge a groundbreaking strategy for a uniform EU energy and climate protection policy. The EU Commission wants to improve competition in the energy market by separating networks from production. The expansion of renewable energies in Europe is to be greatly increased, energy imports are to be reduced, supply countries are to be diversified, and the structure of the European emissions trade is to be improved. Together with ten other leading researchers from European countries, Claudia Kemfert will advise the EU President with a view to ensuring that goals are achieved as efficiently and as effectively as possible.
