SOEP Related Studies

There are now a number of studies in Germany that have incorporated questions from the SOEP questionnaire to be able to validate their results on a representative sample of the German population (see SOEP as Reference Data).

The SOEP-Related Studies (SOEP-RS) are planned in close cooperation with the SOEP team and structured in a similar way to the SOEP. This makes it possible to link the SOEP-RS data sets with the original SOEP questionnaire (SOEP-Core) and to analyze the data together.

SOEP-in-Residence

In addition to offering SOEP users the standard Scientific Use File (on DVD), a special mode of online access (via SOEPremote), and advice over the SOEPhotline, we also provide the opportunity to conduct research during a stay in the SOEP Department at DIW Berlin. Direct discussion with SOEP team members and our user-friendly environment provide fruitful input and support, enabling visiting scholars to work effectively on research projects and bring them to successful completion.

SOEP Reanalysis

Data protection issues are of utmost importance to both SOEP and CNEF. First, data protection is a crucial part of the (implicit) contract between the surveys and their respondents. Second, researchers who want to access the survey data must adhere to strict data protection regulations. The precautions taken by the surveys and data users to guarantee data protection ultimately help to ensure future participation by respondents. Because of the exceptionally high standards of data protection that apply to SOEP and CNEF data, making them available for reanalysis can present a major challenge. The SOEP data are subject to limited access: they are provided solely for research purposes (wissenschaftliche Zweckbindung) and therefore only to members of the scientific community.

SOEP User Survey

Since the opinion and satisfaction of our user community is very important to us, we conduct a user survey every year in November. This gives us the opportunity to improve our service, but also to get new ideas for the further development of SOEP.
