Carbon Contracts for Differences and effective CO2 pricing along the value chain in industry
2nd Online-Workshop

Date

December 4, 2020
15:00 - 16:30

Speakers

André Horstkötter (Thyssenkrupp), Brigitta Huckestein (BASF), Ellen von Zitzewitz (BMWi), Olga Chiappinelli, Karsten Neuhoff, Jörn C. Richstein
In the first CFM-Traction Workshop, preliminary results on the scale of savings that CCfDs could achieve and a first estimate of the amount of public funding required for CCfDs in Germany were discussed, in addition to design options for CCfDs. Furthermore, estimated distributional effects of CO2 pricing along the value chain were discussed.
In this second workshop, follow-up analysis on these topics will be discussed on the basis of the inputs from the first workshop, with particular focus on the following questions:
- To what extent can further cost risks be covered in addition to the CO2 price risk within the framework of CCfDs, e.g. via indexation of CCfDs or combination with CfDs for renewables?
- How should the tendering process be designed, especially with regard to technology openness, competition and allocation between sectors?
- What could the revenues from the climate contribution be used for?
