We examine how fiscal policy works in the open economy based on recent research in the field. In the first part of the course we look at how openness, in particular the exchange rate regime, shapes the fiscal transmission mechanism. Next, look at fiscal policy in currency unions, international spillover effects, and sovereign debt.
