Ariadne2 - Ariadne joint project: Evidence-based assessment for shaping the German energy transition - DIW Berlin sub-project: Scenario forum, electricity and energy market design, transport transition

The aim of the overall project is to initiate social learning processes relating to the energy transition. It aims to identify ways of overcoming obstacles and spell out options for coping with multiple crises. To this end, various key challenges will be examined. The following are of particular importance to the DIW subproject: a) the need for an unprecedented acceleration and scaling of the transformation in technical, economic, and social terms, b) reliable and adaptable instrumentation, c) shortages and technical restrictions, and d) issues of distribution and social justice. The aim of the DIW Berlin subproject is to make relevant contributions to these overarching goals of the overall project. The individual work packages have the following specific objectives:

Work package 1: The aim of the DIW analyses is to gain a better understanding of wholesale prices and market values of different system components and to publish the findings in the form of scientific papers in cooperation with the project partners. 

Work package 5: The aim of the DIW's work is to gain insights into the further development of the electricity and energy market design, with a particular focus on sector coupling and PV self-consumption in the context of case studies. In addition, quantitative indicators will be used to monitor current and longer-term developments in the energy market and to provide impetus for current energy policy developments.

Work package 7: The aim of the DIW analyses is to provide evidence-based recommendations for the further development of the policy mix for the German transport transition by identifying effective, complementary policy measures in an environment of considerable uncertainty about future energy and technology costs as well as changes in demand and behavior.
