To get hints for the model strategy, Volkswagen AG has charged DIW with a study on the effects of a changed framework on the supply of fuel in different countries. The most important change in the last years was a rapid price increase for crude oil and fuel prices and the growing consensus about the necessity to reduce CO2-Emissions.
According to their natural resources and political framework the countries will choose different strategies to cope with the changes. Countries with abundant agricultural land can choose to increase the production of bio fuels, countries with abundant gas resources can stimulate the use of gas as fuel. The increased supply of alternatives to conventional gasoline and diesel will stimulate a demand for cars which are able to use such fuels in an efficient way. Car manufacturers, which are able to deliver such vehicles, will be the winners.
The following countries will be analysed: Brasilia, China, India, Thailand, Russia, USA France, Germany, Sweden, and Spain.
