We analyse the impact of unemployment and flexible employment relationships (e.g. part-time and marginal employment) on the development of public pensions in Germany. On the basis of a combined data set that integrates register data from the German public pension insurance and SOEP data, we aim to quantify the expected changes in individual careers over different cohorts. Using the combined data set we project pensions of current generations and take into account recent reforms of the German public pension system. Using demographic projections we apply a static ageing approach to a microsimulation model in order to project future income of retirees. This will also allow to evaluate different reform scenarios.
