The Department

The extent to which individuals in modern economies have the opportunities to realise their full potential is a key question for society as a whole as well as for individuals themselves. The Department of Education and Family contributes to answering this and related questions based on representative micro data.

Berlin Interdisciplinary Education Research Network (BIEN)

The network targets the uniqueness of Berlin and its surroundings where several research facilities addressing education research are located. It is the aim of BIEN to give young scholars in Berlin and surroundings the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas beyond their home institute and discipline. There are 13 research facilities in Berlin and surroundings that are part of this network. Since October 2013, BIEN is sponsored by the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research). The networks' coordination is located at DIW Berlin.
