Overview: The Department

Research Area

Microeconomics of Conflict

Research profile

The research of the team focuses on aspects of economic and social development in conflict and post-conflict societies or otherwise fragile environments. It mainly uses a micro-level, quantitative approach to study the impact of violence and insecurity on the behavioral choices and welfare of individuals and groups. Applying the micro perspective allows for a better understanding of the underlying processes that lead to and result from mass violence, and hence may provide the foundations for better informed policies at local, national, and international levels. The regional expertise of the team includes, but is not limited to, Colombia, Indonesia, the MENA region, and Somalia.
