The main objective of Germany’s energy policy is an 80% reduction in primary energy consumption by the year 2050. To facilitate this objective, the overall target has been broken down in additional targets, such as a 20% increase in energy efficiency in buildings by 2020. We conducted five studies to address these questions regarding energy efficiency in buildings:

  • What is the cost-benefit ratio of comprehensive, energetic refurbishment in buildings?
  • How can tax policy influence the rate of energetic refurbishment?
  • What is the influence of information treatment at distinct points in the decision process regarding energetic refurbishment?
  • What motivates home owners’ decisions for energetic refurbishment?
  • How are home owners’ decisions for energetic refurbishment influenced by policy measures?
  • Does information regarding energy efficiency influence purchase decisions in the housing market?
