DIW young scientists awarded a "Best Paper Prize"

Report of March 5, 2015

Dipl.-Ing. Roman Mendelevitch, Research Associate and PhD student at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin), and Dipl.-Ing. Pao-Yu Oei, Reseach Associate at Technische Universität Berlin and Visiting Reseacher at DIW Berlin, were awarded the Young Scientist "Best Paper Award" at the 9. Internationale Energiewirtschaftstagung (IEWT), in Vienna, for their contribution: "Consequences of the UK Energy Market Reform on the Development of Carbon Capture, Transport, and Storage (CCTS)". Selected from 60 submissions, the price endowed with 300€ was granted to them and four other contributions.
Their paper was written during a research stay at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA in Laxenburg, Austria). They use innovative methods of equilibrium modeling for an analysis of the UK energy market reform. Based on previous works, they combine a detailed study of the Carbon Capture, Transport, and Storage (CCTS) technology with an electricity market model. In this way, they are able to examine the mechanics of the mechanisms of the energy market reform.
