Research Topics and Working Areas

Jan Stede is a senior research associate in the Climate Policy Department. His interests include electricity markets, emissions trading systems and renewable energy, energy efficiency in industry and buildings, demand response, sustainable finance, and the social impacts of the energy transition. Jan studied Industrial and Network Economics at the TU Berlin and the University of Naples Federico II, and Economics at the University of Cologne. He holds a PhD from the Berlin School of Economics and TU Berlin.

Prior to joining DIW Berlin, Jan worked with the Institute of Energy Economics at the University of Cologne, as well as an energy consulting firm. He is fluent in German, English and Italian.
