Student Research Assistant Position

(10 hours/week)


to provide support for ongoing research in applied development economics. More specifically, the student research assistant will assist in a research project that investigate how households cope with extreme weather events in Mongolia ( The project implements and analyzes a household panel survey in the field.


The student will assist in communications with our Mongolian project partners and in project management tasks. This involves translating documents from English to Mongolian and vice versa, interpreting during phone calls with Mongolian project partners, and assisting with organizing workshops in Berlin and Ulaanbaatar. He/she will also search for and review existing literature.


  • Interest in development economics.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Mongolian.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Command of German is not mandatory, but would be an advantage.
  • Excellent working knowledge of standard office software.
  • At least two years of completed university coursework.
  • Ability to work independently and be highly self-organized.

What we offer

The position offers the opportunity to gain experience in working on empirical research and implementing a household panel survey. Work hours are flexible. The position starts on April 1, 2018.
