Research Topics and Working Areas

Mariza Montes de Oca León is a is a Ph.D. student at the DIW Berlin Graduate Center. Her current research interests are centered around the interaction between the natural resource curse in fossil-fuel abundant economies and climate change mitigation policy.

Prior to joining the Graduate Center, Mariza worked at ICAP, the International Carbon Action Partnership, focusing on emissions trading in emerging economies. Previously, Mariza worked at Centro Mario Molina, a leading energy think-tank in Mexico, where she advised the Mexican government on the design of the carbon tax and the energy renewables certificates market. Mariza has also held positions at the National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change and the Ministry of Finance in Mexico.

Mariza holds a Master in Public Policy from the Hertie School of Governance and a B.A. in Economics from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) . She has been awarded the Banamex Economics Award for his honor’s thesis as well as the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship for climate protection.
