Sven Büchel is a research associate in the Department of Forecasting. As a doctoral researcher of computational linguistics at the University of Jena, he investigates machine-based understanding of emotion in language. He did his undergraduate studies in Physics, Sociology, and German in Jena before starting a Fast-Track PhD Program in 2016. In summer 2018, he was a visiting researcher at the University of Pennsylvania, modeling empathy in language as part of a team of psychologists and computer scientists. In the following year, he worked as a research intern at Amazon, improving the efficiency of the question answering system of the dialogue plattform Alexa.
