02.12.2022 23:59The Climate Policy department of the DIW Berlin assesses the design, implementation, effect and governance of policy instruments for the transition to climate neutrality
The Climate Policy department of the DIW Berlin seeks a Postdoc (f/m/nonbinary) to pursue and lead innovative analysis and engage in dialogues with stakeholders and policy makers on the next generation of policy instruments with a focus on the industry or power sector. One new aspect to consider are emergency market interventions implemented in response to the energy crisis resulting in a new risk allocation between public and private actors as well as between countries. What are the implications for design of policies for the transition to climate neutrality with respect to distribution of costs and benefits, public acceptance, and financing costs?
Researchers at the department do not have any teaching obligations but are expected to contribute to the policy and transfer work of the department. Voluntary teaching opportunities exist at all levels.
Requirements
- Completed PhD in economics or related fields, or close to completion
- a solid background in and interest to further advance the understanding of energy-, industrial- or environmental-economics with a methodological focus on applied micro economics and micro-economic simulations or optimization methods
- Candidates must demonstrate the potential to contribute substantially to academic research and policy analysis, including the ability to recognize and articulate differing viewpoints related to their work as well as an open attitude towards interdisciplinary cooperation.
Preferred skills
- Very good language skills in English (knowledge of German is not necessary but welcomed)
- Initiative and interest in teamwork

The Institute provides access to a first-rate research infrastructure and it is excellently connected to the vibrant academic environment in Berlin as well as the international energy- and climate policy community. Working language is English.
The term of appointment is for three years and it can be renewed for three further years. Payment is according to EG 14 TVöD Bund and ranges initially, depending on prior work experience.
