Research Rating

Wissenschaftsrat Rates the Quality of Research at the SOEP as "Excellent"

The Wissenschaftsrat (German Science and Humanities Council) has rated the quality of research of the German Socio-Economic Panel Study (SOEP) at DIW Berlin in spring 2008 with "top performance of scientific research in international comparison" (the German term is "exzellent"). The SOEP placed in the top three sociological reseach institutions in Germany.

We are very happy about this recognition of our work.

Research Rating of the Wissenschaftsrat

In a pilot study - for chemistry and sociology - the Council compared and evaluated the quality of research at German universities and public research organizations.

In its pilot study in sociology, the Wissenschaftsrat evaluated the research performance of 254 sociological research units at 54 universities and three non-university institutions (Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne, Social Science Center Berlin (WZB), and SOEP at DIW Berlin).

For more information on the pilot study, see the Council's homepage.

The Council used six different criteria, which were evaluated independently.
The SOEP results are the following:
