SOEPThe Research Infrastructure 'Socio-Economic Panel Study (SOEP)' at a glance.
The main task of the Research Infrastructure SOEP is planning, carrying out, and editing the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) study. This wide-ranging longitudinal survey started in 1984 and currently covers about 23,000 individuals living in more than 12,000 private households.
As an Infrastructure Facility of the Leibniz Society (WGL), the Reseach Infrastructure designs the questions and edits the SOEP data, which are then used as the basis for studies in a wide range of scientific disciplines. The members of the Reseach Infrastructure also use the data for analyses in different areas.
Every year about 500 researchers worldwide work with the SOEP data. It also forms an important basis for DIW Berlin research on the development of employment and earnings.
As a research infrastructure the SOEP is member of the Interdisciplinary Network of Infrastructure Facilities (IVI) of the WGL and as a data producer represented in the German Data Forum (RatSWD).
