Nina Vogel new doctoral student in the SOEP group

Personnel news of June 20, 2012

Nina Vogel, a new doctoral student in the SOEP group, became a fellow of the International Max Planck Research School on the Life Course (LIFE). Her work focuses on late-life development of well-being and health.

She studied psychology in Heidelberg, where she received her diploma in 2011. In her thesis, which was supervised by Oliver Schilling and Hans-Werner Wahl, she examined trajectories of affective wellbeing represented by positive and negative affect in older adults.

In her doctoral dissertation, under the supervision of Denis Gerstorf (HU Berlin) and Gert G. Wagner (DIW Berlin), she will go beyond the individual level to study the role of contextual effects on late-life development in well-being and health based on SOEP data. Here, she will examine the role of regional characteristics such as density of medical doctors, tax revenue, and rate of unemployment in different regional units (e.g., West and East Germany, different neighborhoods).
