SOEP-UPD.ZIP (ZIP, 13.13 MB)
How to install the update data step by step
Be sure you are
Download then the file SOEP-UPD.EXE from the top of this page. If you are not allowed to download any EXE-files choose the file SOEP-UPD.ZIP.
Copy the downloaded file in any directory with write access of your own.
a. SOEP-UPD.EXE : Run the file in the following manner
SOEP-UPD.EXE -pass=password

FBZIP.EXE SOEP-UPD.ZIP
To extract the archive you will asked to submit the actual password of wave 20.
After this procedure you get four files:
| README.1ST | In principle this text. |
| SOEP-20.COD | Helds the encoded data. |
| TEST-CD3.EXE | Program testing if CD-ROM 3 existing. |
| PI_CODE2.EXE | Program decoding SOEP-UPD.COD if CD-ROM3 is available. |
Put the CD-ROM 3 in any drive. Please close the SOEP-Window supposing it appears.
Run the program TEST-CD 3.EXE without any parameters.
If the correct CD-ROM 3 is found, SOEP-UPD.COD will be decoded to an unprotected self-extracting-file UPD-20.EXE with all update files you need.
Run it without any parameters, too, UPD-20.EXE
and you will get the following files
The application is very is easy:
The program UPD2RUN.EXE corrects variables defined in the ASCII-update file named SOEP-20.UPD.
Start the program with
UPD2RUN.EXE /t= /s=
<type of files>:
| por | = | SPSS - portable files Output: UPD_POR.SPS |
| sav | = | SPSS - system files Output: UPD_SAV.SPS |
| dta | = | STATA - system files Output: UPD_DTA.DO |
| sas7bda | = | SAS - system files Output: UPD_SAS7.SAS |
<soeppath>
directory of data (write access is required)
Proposed you want update your STATA Files and your data lay down in the subdirectory E:\GSOEP20.
In this case run the program with
UPD2RUN.EXE /t=dta /s=E:\GSOEP20
The result is a DO-File named UPD_DTA.DO. Run it in STATA and the work is done.
You also have to generate the syntax-files on a windows-system. Nevertheless use the Unix syntax for the specification. For example: e:/gsoep20 (Unix) e:\gsoep20 (Windows).
A) SAS labels
The labels of the $TYPHH2 variable in data sets AHGEN to MHGEN have to be changed, therefore you may download and let run these scripts:
script for English labels (SAS, 15.15 KB)
script for German labels (SAS, 12.83 KB)
B) SAS-Export files
The program UPD2RUN using SAS-export files runs not properly until now.
We recommend you to use SAS-system-files or to contact us!
See our website if a newer version of UPD2RUN is available.
