DIW Berlin bezieht neue Büros im Berliner Quartier 110

Press Release of March 15, 2006

There is a new tenant in the Quartier 110: The German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) intends to relocate its offices to Mohrenstraße 58 in Berlin-Mitte. So far, its seat has been in Königin-Louise-Straße in Berlin-Dahlem. At present, details are being resolved between DIW Berlin and Zürich Versicherung AG (Germany), the owner of the real estate. The signing of the contract is expected to take place in April. The actual move is scheduled for November 2006. The almost 200 employees of DIW Berlin will be relocated to a total office area of approx. 7,400 m2.
“The equipment in the offices in the Quartier 110 is of high quality and very modern; the offices themselves have a generous layout. In addition, we can reproduce our fragmented office structure in an ideal manner,” Dr. Susanne Maria Schmidt, Managing Director and Member of the Executive Board of DIW Berlin commented on the planned relocation. “Thus, our staff will have optimized working conditions in the very heart of Berlin”. The new location has strategic advantages for DIW Berlin. “The new location in Berlin-Mitte will finally make us an institute worthy of the capital - because then we will be located directly near our customers, members of politics, economy and the media”, says Ms. Schmidt. At the beginning of the month of March, the sponsors of DIW Berlin, the federal government and the State Government of Berlin as well as the Board of Trustees gave DIW Berlin the go-ahead for the relocation to Berlin-Mitte.
Jens Bernhardt, Managing Director of Zurich Group Invest Europe (Deutschland) GmbH, who is responsible for the real estate management of Zurich Group, is looking forward to having a new tenant in the Quartier 110. “The move-in of DIW Berlin confirms our strategy of counting on high-value and flexible solutions for our real estate. The future offices of DIW Berlin are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and provide for a nice working atmosphere.” As a whole, the Quartier 110 offers approx. 24,000 m2 of office space, 2,500 m2 of retail trade space and several attractive apartments. Due to the economic and political discussion forums which take place in the historical “Kultursaal”, the building has become a top location in Berlin.
