A number of mega trends change the economic, social and ecological development framework. For the most part, the causes of these noticeable structural interruptions and trends are based in external, sometimes global processes. Their universal impact makes them almost impervious to intervention by regional actors. At the same time, there is scope in politics and society for design and adaptation - their adequate application and effectiveness will play a major role in determining future German living conditions. The project aims to highlight these alternatives in a range of development scenarios. These scenarios will focus on spatial structure, that is the spatial distribution of population, labour force and employees, of companies and value added as well as infrastructures and land use.
