The course is designed to make the world of academic journals, especially high impact journals, more transparent and to help the participants to avoid common pitfalls of scientific writing. Moreover, you will learn how to write good abstracts that make editors become interested in your work. Topics covered will include:
An inside perspective of the decision making process in journals
How editors read papers
How to write abstracts to grasp the attention of editors, referees and other readers (practical exercises)
The parts of a scientific paper and how to compose them
How to deal with (negative) feedback
The course language will be English. Please register with Yun Cao (ycao@diw.de) for one of the two sessions and also indicate the availability for the alternative date in case too few/many people register for your session.
