Do risk preferences change as a function of age? I will present results of meta-analyses, small behavioral experiments, as well as preliminary analysis of SOEP that suggest that age may lead to decreased self-reported risk taking but that age-related changes may vary significantly as a function of the life domain and measure adopted. These results suggests that more work is needed to understand the properties of risk taking measures which has implications for studying age-related as well as individual differences in this domain.
