DIW Berlin joins the Berlin Partners Science and Research Group

On August 1, 2006, the German Institute for Economic Research Berlin (DIW Berlin) became a member of the Berlin Partner GmbH Science and Research network. With around 200 staff members, making it the largest economic research institute in Germany, DIW Berlin has a major input into national economic issues. Its work is based on applied economic research and the application of its research to political decision-making, business and public institutions at national, European and international level. The Institute presents its research findings to different target groups in its own publications, in specialist magazines, and at organized events. Its work is also widely reported in the media.
As an economic institute that provides advice on a broad spectrum of economic policy issues, we are particularly interested in the opportunity to form part of an attractive network of thinkers from the academic and business worlds, and that is exactly what Berlin Partner GmbH offers. At the same time, this partnership allows us to express our particular ties with Berlin commented Prof. Dr. Klaus F. Zimmermann, President of DIW Berlin, explaining the Institute’s reasons for joining the network. DIW Berlin has been based in Berlin since it was first established in 1925 as the Institut für Konjunkturforschung.

In addition to the seven research departments covering areas such as ‘Macro Analysis and Forecasting’, ‘International Economics’ and ‘Information Society and Competition’, there are a number of cross-departmental research groups on subjects such as Financial Markets and Labour Market Economics. DIW Berlin is one of the twelve Berlin-based institutes that belong to the Leibniz Association. In the words of Roland Engels, Managing Director of Berlin Partner GmbH, ‘The German Institute of Economic Research is an internationally recognized think-tank that applies its academic research findings at the interface between politics and economics and as such is a valuable member of the Berlin Partners Science and Research group.
