Current Project
The project deals with scientific questions on industrial transformation towards a climate-neutral and resilient economy, covering the entire breadth of this topic. Questions on industrial transformation in Germany and beyond are formulated with a view to the EU's energy and climate policy instruments. The approach applies scientific methods throughout.
The background to the project is the very dynamic policy background of recent years, especially since 2019, as well as increasing uncertainties regarding the future economic structure, value chains and global division of labour: while the need for transformation in industry towards a climate-neutral economy remains, a geopolitical situation increasingly determined by conflicts brings with it considerable uncertainty factors that also have an impact on the energy system and industrial transformation.
These multiple complexities require a broad and comprehensive, scientifically sound and open-ended view of the numerous issues surrounding industrial transformation. The research project is divided into two sub-projects: "Techno-economic analyses and modelling" (TAM), led by the Fraunhofer ISI and "Analysis of regulatory framework conditions for industrial transformation" (ARR), led by the DIW Berlin.
