In Germany, average housing prices are stabilizing after two years of decline, while rents continue to rise

The infographic of DIW Weekly Report 51/2025 shows trends in German real estate prices from 1996 to 2025. It contains two line charts: Left Chart – Purchase Prices: Title: “Purchase price in euros/m² – Existing condominium.” Horizontal axis: Years (’96, 2005, 2015, 2025). Vertical axis: Price in euros per square meter (0 to 2,500). The line rises steadily from around 500 €/m² in 1996 to nearly 2,500 €/m² in 2025, with noticeable growth after 2015. Right Chart – Rental Prices: Title: “Rental price in euros/m² – Existing rental apartment.” Horizontal axis: Same years as the first chart. Vertical axis: Price in euros per square meter (0 to 12). The line increases gradually from about 6 €/m² in 1996 to around 12 €/m² in 2025.
