DIW Berlin’s Climate Policy Department is looking to fill from mid-October 

 two Student Research Assistant Positions

(10 to 19 hours/week)

 

One position with an economics and finance focus

Tasks

  • Regular assistance in projects of the department, which analyse policy incentives and market design. The successful applicant will mainly work on a national project dedicated to sustainable finance, investigating the links between the financial sector and a low-carbon transformation of the economy.
  • (i) Literature reviews and data research; (ii) supporting the team with data analyses, or model-based analyses; and (iii) supporting the project team with activities related to the engagement project partners and stakeholders (e.g., organization of workshops, preparation of presentations)

Requirements

 

  • Advanced university studies with a background in economics, preferably with courses taken in finance and sustainability
  • Very good working knowledge of standard office software, particularly MS Excel, and knowledge of statistical software (e.g. Stata, R) or GIS
  • Fluency in English
  • Working in a young and international team
  • Flexibility and the ability to work independently
  • First experience in working with financial data of firms or financial institutions would be an advantage
  • Existing knowledge and interest in climate policy and financial regulation would be an advantage

A second position with an economics and political science focus

Tasks

  • Support to projects of the department on the analysis of national, sectoral climate policy, related policy instruments and governance arrangements – for example on questions of climate finance and climate policies in emerging economies. The successful applicant will mostly work on an international project dedicated to low-carbon transformation in industry, which combines approaches of political science and economic research, as well as international interactions.
  • (i) literature reviews and data research, (ii) supporting the project team in the preparation of climate policy and governance analyses, (iii) supporting the project team with activities related to the engagement of international partners (e.g., organization of calls and workshops, preparation of presentations)

 

Requirements

  • Advanced university studies with an economics background, preferably with courses taken and an interest in political science
  • Very good working knowledge of standard office software
  • Fluency in English
  • Good communication skills and an interest in international climate policy processes
  • Working in a young and international team
  • Flexibility and the ability to work independently
  • Experience and knowledge on climate policy of emerging economies would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of case study research (qualitative and/or quantitative methods) would be an advantage
