12.03.2023 23:59The research-based infrastructure of the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP), based at DIW Berlin, is one of the largest and longest-running multidisciplinary panel studies in the world, currently surveying about 30,000 people in nearly 15,000 households each year. SOEP claims to capture social change and is thus confronted with ever new and diverse topics and tasks. Its data collection and generation follows the concept of the survey or data life cycle.
The Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) research infrastructure at DIW Berlin is hiring for the following position, to start as soon as possible:
Post-Doctoral Position in Public Economics (f/m/nonbinary) (full-time at 39 hours per week, part-time possible)
We are looking for a post-doctoral research associate with a strong interest in public economics. The candidate will be involved a research project on the distribution of income and wealth and taxation in Germany and France using administrative inheritance tax, income tax and survey data. We are especially interested in candidates with a strong background in measurement of income and wealth inequality, applied micro-econometrics and/or optimal taxation.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Measure and compare economic inequality and redistribution in France and Germany
- Estimate behavioral responses to wealth and inheritance taxation
- Peer-reviewed articles in leading international journals
- Conference presentations and knowledge transfer
Requirements
- Interest in and expertise in above research topics and tasks
- Doctoral and undergraduate degree (master's, diploma) in economics
- Experience in the analysis of administrative tax data and/or survey panel data
- Experience in using e.g. Stata, R, or Python
- Independent, analytical, and solution-oriented approach to your work, paired with a strong sense of responsibility and high quality standards
- Outstanding communication and implementation skills and ability to work in a team
- Very good command of English

The salary is paid according to TVöD Bund, salary group E14. The contract will be for a fixed term ending after 36 months.
