New DIW-OECD Industrial Strategy Dialogue event series launched

The Berlin-based "DIW-OECD industrial strategy dialogues" event series was launchend on December 8. It provides a platform for dialogue between key stakeholders from policy, business, society, and academia to discuss cutting-edge research and which industrial strategies can work for Germany, Europe and their global partners to address the major challenges of our time. Successful industrial strategies require well-designed policies that coordinate many areas, ranging from trade, competition, technology and innovation policies to standards setting, regulation and skill development.

The first roundtable discussion „Industrial policy and free trade – Managing tensions, exploiting synergies“ discussed how OECD countries and partners can work together more effectively to better leverage the synergies between successful industrial strategies and open global markets, while managing tensions.

The roundtable was opened by Tomaso Duso, head of the Firms and Markets department at DIW Berlin, followed by a presentation by Marion Jansen, Director of the Trade and Agriculture Directorate at OECD. Taking part in the discussion were Sonali Chowdhry, DIW Berlin, Christian Forwick, Head of Department for Foreign Trade Policy,Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, and Wolfgang Niedermark, Member of the Executive Management Board, BDI. The discussion was moderated by Nicola Brandt, OECD Berlin Centre.
