In the Department of Energy, Transport and Environment, there are two research areas "Transformation of the Energy Industry" and "Resource and Environmental Markets". In addition, research is carried out on the topic of "transport economics".
The area "Transformation of the Energy Industry" investigates the market and system integration of renewable energies, the changing energy infrastructure, energy storage and other options for flexibility in the electricity sector, as well as the increased coupling of electricity, heat and transport markets.
The area of "Resource and Environmental Markets" deals with the development of international resource markets against the background of national and international environmental and climate policies, with the secure supply of import-dependent regions with oil, natural gas and coal, as well as with externalities of resource consumption.
In the thematic area "Transport Economics", transport markets and infrastructures as well as their influence on economic growth and productivity are examined, the development of transport demand is analysed, and externalities of transport and non-marketable goods are assessed.
