Labor shortages and skills mismatches pose significant challenges for Germany and other advanced economies, which are further exacerbated by the retirement of the baby boomer generation, the digital transformation and the ecological transformation of the economy. These developments are fundamentally changing labor demand, task structures and skill requirements, leading to a growing mismatch between skills offered and skills needed.

Our research group analyzes these changes using modern methods such as microeconometric analyses and randomized controlled trials in order to develop scientifically sound solutions for policy measures. We focus on key areas such as education, immigration, gender, family and pension policies and investigate their interactions in order to reduce labor shortages and skills gaps in a sustainable way.
